Y Achievers
             p-teenachievers.jpg

Teens, by nature, are struggling to define their identities.  The YMCA Achievers program taps into that natural curiosity to connect youth with adult role models with similar cultural and racial backgrounds in an effort to help guide the teen achievers towards bright and secure futures.

Y Achievers is built on the notion that community and corporate involvement is critical to building networks and opportunities for youth.  The program centers on relationships established between volunteer mentors and youth during career clusters.  Clusters are workshops dedicated to specific areas of professional interest.  Youth participants and mentors, who are experts in their fields, complete projects that are designed to provide students an opportunity to explore their career interest through real-life application of skills.  Career clusters include:  Arts & Entertainment, Business, Communications, Computer & Technology, Education & Human Services, Engineering & Science, Health & Medicine, Law & Government and Entrepreneurship disciplines.

Cluster Workshops are held the first and third Saturday of every month, from October through June from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm, on the campus of Drexel University.  The Y Achievers program is free and open to all students grades 7 – 12.  For more information contact Avery Ross, Y Acheivers Program Director at (215) 235-6440 ext. 1711.
