West Philadelphia YMCA Day Camp

REGISTRATION STARTS ON FEBRUARY 1, 2010 FOR SUMMER CAMP!!!!
For several years, the West Philadelphia YMCA has been making summer exciting for the children of our community. We offer a great selection of fun and exciting activities in our camps, ranging from sports, swimming, adventure and creative arts for all ages. Enriching all our programs are the principles of YMCA Character Development: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Our counselors have been carefully selected for their talents, experience and integrity. Ensuring that everyone has equal access to summer camp, the YMCA offers a variety of Financial Assistance for qualifying families. Give your child the gift of summer memories by enrolling them in one or more of our distinguished programs.

Camp Trailblazers (Age 12 -14)
Camp Trailblazers is intended for young teens and is designed to build their leadership skills, let them explore different career opportunities, give them a chance to make a difference in their community and, most importantly, to let them have a fun-filled outdoor summer experience! There will be two weekly field trips and three days on theme-related and other outdoor activities to leave a positive lasting impression. Camp Trailblazers will go on trips with Camp Pathfinders. Activities will include leadership, sports, adventure, swimming, nature exploration, the arts, social time and more. Also a special perk of being part of Camp is the opportunity to experience a trip to the Rocky Run YMCA trails and the Adventure Challenge Course, complete with low ropes and a zip line.
Camp Pathfinders (Age 10 - 11)
Camp Pathfinders is intended for pre-teens and is designed to give 5th and 6th graders a fun, safe outdoor summer experience. There will be two weekly field trips and three days of theme-related activities that will utilzing the branch'sfacilities equipped with a basketball gym, 6 lane Olympic size swimming pool, mulit-purpose rooms and access to Malcolm X Park, and will leave a positive lasting impression. Camp Pathfinders will go on trips with Camp Trailblazers. Activities will include leadership, sports, adventure, swimming, nature exploration, the arts, social time and more.

Camp Explorers (Age 8 - 9)
Camp Explorers is a traditional summer day camp, designed to provide campers an outdoor camp experience at the West Philadelphia YMCA. Camp Excitement is designed to introduce 3rd and 4th graders to a fun, educational and safe summer camp enviroment through an age appropriate daily schedule of outdoor activities led by qualified YMCA Camp Counselors. Since Camp Explorers regular activities will take place at the West Philadelphia YMCA, it will be utilizing the branch's facilities equipped with a basketball gym, 6 lane Olympic swimming pool, multi purpose rooms and access to Malcom X Park. Campers also participate in awesome field trips each week. Trips have included: Skating, Amusement Parks, The Camden Aquarium, Brandywine Park, The Philadelphia Zoo and others. Each week of camp is filled with fun and exciting themes culminating in a large special event each Friday afternoon.

Camp Pioneers (Age 6 - 7)
Camp Pioneers is a traditional summer day camp, designed to provide campers an outdoor camp experience at the West Philadelpha YMCA. Camp Pioneers is designed t o introduce 1st and 2nd graders to a fun, educational and safe summer camp envir oment through an age-appropiate daily schedule of outdoor activities led by qual ified YMCA Camp Counselors. Since Camp Pioneers' regular activites will take pla ce at the West Philadelpha YMCA, it will be utilizing the branchs facilites equi pped with a basketball gym, 6 lane Olympic size swimming pool, mulit-purpose roo ms and access to Malcom X Park. Camp Small Feet (Age 4 - 5)
Camp Small Feet provides children with creative and stimulating activites and learning experiences that make their day enjoyable. As with all our camps, there will b a weekly theme in Camp Small Feet, around which all of the activites will be centered. Aside from our filed trips days, the daily schedule will include swimming, arts & crafts, songs and outside playtime. Each week will contain a fun, educational field trip to teach the campers more about their surronding world. Counselors will stay with their groups all day long to maxamize safety and ensure the personal enjoyment of each camper. ALL CAMPERS MUST BE OUT OF DIAPERS AND TOILET-TRAINED.

LIT-Leaders in Training (Ages 14-16)
The LIT program is intended for Teens interested in working with children in a structured day camp setting. The goals of the LIT program are for teens to be given opportunities to develop leadership skills, work with younger campers and begin to experience what it’s like to work in a Summer Camp environment. LITs receive training in areas such as: Working with Children, Leadership & Communication Skills, Camp Procedures & Policies, Safety, Conflict Resolution, Developing and Leading activities, and more. LITs have the opportunity to spend time with camp groups. In addition to shadowing key camp staff in program areas, LITs spend a portion of their session with Camp for recreation and fun in addition to their responsibilities. Teen’s interest in being part of the LIT program must complete a special LIT application packet, which involves submitting two letter of reference. The purpose of the application is to determine each Teens interests so the program can be adapted to meet the needs of each Teen. Teens who partake in the LIT program must be willing to have an open-mind and willing to learn, have a positive attitude, able to work in a group setting, and a willingness to work with children as young as 4 years old. Applications for the LIT Program will be available January 21, 2010.
